Promise 66: 2 John – 63

2 John

In the second letter of the Apostle John, the writer addresses himself to the “elect lady.” This woman and her family were a devout, faithful group of believers open to the unfolding truth of Jesus Christ and the blessings that attend those who look to Him for salvation:

[2Jo 1:3 KJV] 3 Grace be with you, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

In John’s opening words, he extends the trifecta of God’s character and love for us in grace, mercy, and peace. The term “grace” means “God’s empowering presence.” Mercy in this verse translates as “clemency and pardon.” Peace is a word that describes the “peace of one whose warfare has been done away with….” I declare that warfare of the enemy against you is at an end and peace now reigns in your life. Of all the things you may know about yourself – accept that you are one of God’s “elect,” and all these blessings accrue to you and your family in Jesus’ name!
