Man Did Eat Angel’s Food

Did you know at least once in your life you’ve tasted the bread of angels? In John 6:41, Jesus declared that He was (in His person) the bread from heaven (speaking of the manna that sustained the Israelites in the wilderness). This was not lost on the Psalmist who wrote:

Psalms 78:25 Man did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full.

There is much speculation on just what this was that showed up on the ground every morning. Jewish mysticism believes that this food, once eaten, was totally absorbed by the body, making it unnecessary to eliminate through the bowels. The apostle Paul calls the water from the Rock and manna every morning “spiritual food and drink.”

[1Co 10:3-4 ] And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Jesus spoke of spiritual hunger connecting it with the blessing of God:

[Mat 5:6 KJV] Blessed [are] they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Are you hungry? Is Jesus enough to satisfy your soul? Is His word your daily sustenance with no appetite for anything else? When you accept Christ as your Savior, He enters into your spirit man the same way food enters the physical body. When I work out every day, I can tell the difference a high protein drink makes before starting. After having a high protein drink and starting a workout, I can exert myself much more effectively than when I have nothing. The bread of God is like that.

In 1 Kings 19:5-8 an angel met Elijah under a Juniper tree and gave him food and drink. He didn’t eat again for 40 days. That is the sustaining power of God. Are you weak? Do you feel feeble, as though you can’t go on? Take the bread of God into yourself. What is the bread of God? The Bread of God is Jesus and Jesus is the Word incarnate (John 1:1).

When you take God’s Word into your mouth, you bring Jesus on the scene in your situation. When you drink of the spiritual drink of the indwelling Christ, there is a refreshing that quenches you that those outside of Christ know nothing about. In Matt. 26:27 Jesus gave His disciples the Cup and said, “Drink all of it…” He is saying the same thing today. Drink deeply of His Spirit today and be refreshed. Eat to the full of His word and find the strength to face the day and overcome. That is your portion, and that is God’s blessing just waiting for you to partake of right now.
