The Prophetic Calling: Embracing the Visionary and Walking in the Miraculous

The Prophetic Calling: Embracing the Visionary and Walking in the Miraculous:

The prophetic is often misunderstood as simply predicting the future. While foretelling can be a part of the prophetic, it’s not the defining characteristic. True prophetic ministry is about so much more. It’s about intimately connecting with the heart of God and becoming a vessel through which His divine purposes are made manifest in the world. It’s about actively participating in the unfolding of His redemptive plan for humanity.

One crucial aspect of the prophetic is partnering with God. This involves cultivating a deep and abiding relationship with Him, consistently seeking His presence, and aligning your heart with His will. It requires a posture of humility and surrender, recognizing that you are merely an instrument in His hands. As you yield to His leading, He will impart His wisdom, insights, and strategies, empowering you to effectively serve His purposes.

“But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.” – Micah1 3:8 (KJV)

Another vital dimension of the prophetic is releasing God’s heart. This involves more than just speaking words. It encompasses every aspect of your being – your thoughts, emotions, actions, and creative expressions. It’s about becoming a conduit of His love, grace, and truth, allowing His divine nature to flow through you and touch the lives of others. As you yield to His Spirit, you become a vessel of His healing, restoration, and transformation, bringing hope and breakthrough to those around you.

“And the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.” – Exodus 7:12 (KJV)

Finally, the prophetic is about seeing and declaring. Prophets are given spiritual sight to perceive what God is doing and saying in the world. They are granted access to divine perspectives, insights, and revelations that are often hidden from the natural eye. They see the bigger picture, discern the spiritual dynamics at play, and understand the times and seasons. And as they see, they are called to declare – to speak forth God’s word with boldness and clarity, bringing correction, direction, and encouragement to individuals, communities, and even nations.

“Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.” – Jeremiah3 1:9 (KJV)

Levels of the Prophetic: From Words to Wonders

Prophetic ministry operates on a spectrum of expressions, each carrying its own unique significance and impact. Some prophets are primarily called to minister through words. They may deliver messages of encouragement, exhortation, or comfort, building up the Body of Christ and strengthening the faith of believers. Their words bring clarity, conviction, and direction, guiding people towards God’s best for their lives.

“But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.” – 1 Corinthians 14:3 (KJV)

Others may have a strong gift of discernment, enabling them to see beyond the surface and perceive the hidden things of the spirit. They can identify the enemy’s schemes, expose deception, and reveal the root causes of problems. This gift is crucial for protecting God’s people, bringing correction, and promoting spiritual health and wholeness.

“And he said, Go in, and see the wicked abominations that they do here.” – Ezekiel 8:9 (KJV)

And then there are those who operate in the realm of signs, miracles, and wonders. These individuals are endowed with extraordinary power to demonstrate the reality of God’s Kingdom. They may heal the sick, cast out demons, or perform other supernatural acts that defy natural explanations. These manifestations serve as a powerful testimony to the world, drawing people to faith and revealing the limitless power of God.

“And many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.” – Acts 2:43 (KJV)

The Visionary: A Seer in the Spirit

The visionary is a unique type of prophet who receives revelation through a variety of supernatural means. They possess a heightened sensitivity to the spiritual realm, allowing them to perceive and experience things that are often hidden from others. They are like spiritual antennas, tuned into the frequencies of heaven, downloading divine messages and insights.

One common way visionaries receive revelation is through dreams. These are not ordinary dreams, but vivid and symbolic experiences that carry profound meaning and significance. They may contain messages from God, warnings about future events, or insights into the spiritual realm. Visionaries learn to interpret the symbolism and language of dreams, unlocking the hidden messages they contain.

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:”4 – Joel 2:28 (KJV)

Another way visionaries receive revelation is through open visions. These are supernatural experiences that occur while the individual is awake, often with their physical eyes open. They may see angels, demons, or other spiritual beings. They may witness scenes from heaven, hell, or other realms. These visions can be incredibly powerful and life-changing, providing profound insights into the spiritual realities that surround us.

“And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” – Habakkuk5 2:2 (KJV)

Some visionaries may also experience trances, where they enter an altered state of consciousness and receive downloads of information from the spiritual realm. In this state, they may lose awareness of their physical surroundings and become completely immersed in the spiritual experience. They may receive prophetic messages, divine strategies, or deep revelations about God’s character and purposes.

“And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.”6 – Daniel 8:15 (KJV)

In rare cases, visionaries may even have out-of-body experiences, where their spirit leaves their physical body and travels to other realms. This can be a disorienting and even frightening experience, but it can also be incredibly profound, providing glimpses of heaven, hell, or other dimensions of reality.

“I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the7 third heaven.” – 2 Corinthians8 12:2 (KJV)

It’s crucial for visionaries to actively cultivate their gift, spending time in prayer and worship, seeking God’s face, and asking for deeper revelation. They must also develop discernment, learning to interpret the symbolism and meaning of their visions accurately. And finally, they need to learn to communicate effectively, sharing their visions in a way that is clear, concise, and relevant to those who hear them.

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” – James 4:8a (KJV)

“But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good9 and evil.” – Hebrews 5:14 (KJV)

“And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.”10 – 1 Corinthians 13:2 (KJV)

Counting the Cost: The Challenges of Prophetic Ministry

Walking in the prophetic, especially at a level that involves signs and wonders, is not without its challenges. It’s a path that requires courage, resilience, and a deep trust in God. One of the challenges you may face is opposition. People may misunderstand or reject your ministry, especially if it challenges their preconceived notions or disrupts the status quo. You may be labeled as a fanatic, a heretic, or worse.

“And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”11 – Revelation 13:8 (KJV)

Another challenge you may encounter is criticism. Even within the church, you may face criticism from those who question your motives, methods, or interpretations. Some may accuse you of being prideful, attention-seeking, or even deceptive. It’s important to develop thick skin and not allow criticism to derail you from your calling.

“For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with12 God.” – 1 Peter 2:20 (KJV)

Perhaps the most significant challenge you will face is spiritual warfare. The enemy will try to discourage, discredit, or even destroy you. He may use fear, doubt, temptation, or even physical attacks to hinder your effectiveness. It’s crucial to put on the full armor of God and stand firm in your faith.

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” – Ephesians 6:11 (KJV)

But remember, the intensity of the opposition and warfare you face can actually be an indicator of the significance of your calling. The enemy attacks what he fears most. Your faithfulness in the face of adversity will ultimately bring glory to God and advance His Kingdom.

“Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.” – Matthew13 5:11 (KJV)

Finding Strength in Support: Mentorship and Community

Navigating the challenges of prophetic ministry is much easier with the right support system. Mentorship is invaluable for those walking the prophetic path. A mentor who has walked the path before you can offer guidance, encouragement, wisdom, and a safe space to process your experiences. They can help you understand your unique gifting, avoid common pitfalls, and navigate the complexities of ministry.

“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”14 – 2 Timothy 2:2 (KJV)

In addition to mentorship, community is essential for thriving in prophetic ministry. Surround yourself with a community of believers who will believe in your calling, champion your journey, and provide prayer support and accountability. This community can be a source of strength, encouragement, and refreshment, especially during times of difficulty or discouragement.

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”15 – Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)

Embracing the Journey: From Small Beginnings to Greatness

If you sense a prophetic call on your life, don’t despise small beginnings. Your ministry may start in an unconventional setting, like the marketplace, or in a small, unassuming church. It may involve serving faithfully behind the scenes, quietly impacting lives without fanfare or recognition. Embrace these humble beginnings, for they are often the training ground for greater things to come.

“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.” – Luke16 16:10 (KJV)

Remember, the true measure of success in prophetic ministry is not found in outward appearances, platform size, or public acclaim. It’s found in your faithfulness to God and your willingness to serve His purposes, no matter how big or small the task may seem. Focus on seeking His Kingdom and His righteousness, and He will faithfully provide for your needs and open doors of opportunity in His perfect timing.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33 (KJV)17
