Spiritual Growth and Divine Power

Spiritual Growth and Divine Power:

It is helpful for us to explore the transformative power of a life lived in Christ, focusing in this study on key scriptural principles that guide us from spiritual infancy to maturity. We will look into the profound implications of our freedom from condemnation, the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, and the glorious hope of our inheritance as children of God. Through examining passages from Romans, Revelation, and Psalms, we will unpack the mechanics of spiritual growth, the vital role of intercession, and the call to a life of purity and obedience, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of our identity and purpose in Christ.

No Condemnation in Christ

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:1-2 KJV)

We are freed from the weight of sin and the fear of condemnation through Christ Jesus. This freedom allows us to walk in the Spirit, focusing on the things of God, which bring life and peace. “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6 KJV) Our minds should be focused on spiritual matters, aligning ourselves with God’s will.

The Spirit Within

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” (Romans 8:9 KJV)

The presence of the Holy Spirit within us is essential for a true relationship with God. It is the Spirit that empowers us, guides us, and connects us to Christ. “And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” (Romans 8:10 KJV) Christ’s presence brings life to our spirits, even though our bodies are subject to decay.

Led by the Spirit

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:14 KJV)

Being led by the Spirit is a hallmark of a true child of God. This guidance brings us into a place of adoption, where we can call God “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15 KJV) The Spirit testifies to our sonship, assuring us of our place in God’s family. “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” (Romans 8:16 KJV)

Joint Heirs with Christ

“And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”1 (Romans 8:17 KJV)

As children of God, we are also heirs to His kingdom, sharing in the inheritance with Christ. This glorious future awaits us, especially if we share in his sufferings.

God’s Unfailing Love

“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:31-32 KJV)

Nothing can separate us from God’s love. His sacrifice for us is the ultimate demonstration of His love, and it assures us that He will withhold no good thing from us.

The Power of Intercession

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the2 Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.3 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8:26-27 KJV)

The Holy Spirit intercedes for us, even when we don’t know how to pray. This divine intercession aligns our prayers with God’s perfect will.

Blessed Hope

“For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.” (Romans 8:24-25 KJV)

Our salvation is rooted in hope, a confident expectation of what God has promised. This hope sustains us through trials and strengthens us to persevere.

Purification and Transformation

“For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope; Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.” (Romans 8:20-21 KJV)

We are called to a process of purification and transformation, moving from our fallen nature to the glorious liberty of the children of God. This process requires surrender and a willingness to allow God to work in our lives.
