Sand Seed, Dust Seed, Star Seed

What kind of seed are you in God? Are you sand seed, dust seed or star seed? The answer is more important than you might think.  In Genesis 22:17, God promised Abraham that his seed after him would be as innumerable as the stars of heaven and that they would possess the gate of their enemies.

Genesis 22:17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

Interestingly, God also told Abraham that his seed would be as the sand on the seashore. Which is it? Are they as the sand of the seashore or the stars of heaven? This is a question that bears answering because sand and stars are two different things. Besides this, God also made a third promise that Abraham’s seed would be as the dust of the earth:

[Gen 13:16 KJV] 16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, [then] shall thy seed also be numbered.

What do we have here then? We have:

Dust seed

Sand seed

Star seed

Which are you? Some might conclude these promises only apply to Abraham’s descendants after the flesh – that is, the Jews. Let’s remember that Paul declared these promises given to Abraham are extended to you and I as born again believers:

[Gal 3:29 KJV] 29 And if ye [be] Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

In light of this great Father Fact that we are heirs of Abraham’s blessings, then we know that Gen. 22:17 says something to us about who we are and where we stand in the economy of the kingdom of God. What then is the more profound truth about the star seed, sand seed, and dust seed? Gen. 15:5 gives us a clue:

[Gen 15:5 KJV] 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

When God instructs Abraham in the above verse, He uses specific language. He says to Abraham, “tell” the stars. The word “tell” in the Septuagint (the Greek language translation of the Old Testament from Jesus’ day) – uses the term “stelle”, which is a word for an ancient writing instrument used to etch on clay tablets used in ancient times as we use paper today. In that light, it doesn’t do violence to the passage to suggest God was instructing Abraham and saying to him, “look at the stars and connect the dots…” The ancient Hebrews understood that the stars held messages. What the Greeks perverted into the Zodiac, God, in the beginning, called the “Mazzaroth” (see Job 38:32).

As a born again believer, God has placed you in a constellation of relationships with other “star seed” or born again people for the purpose of stating a message in the heavens. This is part of what is meant when the scripture says we are seated in Christ in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6). That constellation of relationships to other Christians is your tribe in God (a whole other teaching). Think about it. The people God has connected you with in the body – you would probably never have anything in common with them outside of Christ. Yet, in Christ, you come together to form a powerful agreement and statement about your commonality in Christ, your testimony, and the power of your unity to break down strongholds and prevail against all the work of the enemy.

What of the sand seed? These were the children of Ishmael after the flesh. Interesting that the descendants of Ishmael originate from ancient times from the sands of the Arabian peninsula. The sand seed is much more than this. In Matthew 7:26, Jesus warned the Pharisees they were building on sand, and their house would fall. The sand seed spiritually speaking are those who build their lives on dead religious principle. Sand seed religion always brings men to destruction as it did in the case of the generation that rejected Jesus in 70 AD when the Temple was destroyed.

What of the dust seed? These were those born of Abraham’s third wife, a concubine named Keturah. She bore him five sons after Sarah’s death. When the time came to divide the inheritance, Abraham gave Isaac all he had – but to the sons of Keturah, he gave gifts and sent them away. Are you dust seed? This is the Pentecostal, Charismatic realm. These are those who want God’s gifts and to move in prophecy and healing and miracles, but they are far from God. In Matt. 7:23 Jesus addresses the dust seed – who did many mighty miracles, but he says, “depart from Me I never knew you…” They are the dust seed realm.

So which are you? Are you dust seed? Are you caught up in spiritual experiences, gifts, and goosebumps? God gives these many times, and as Abraham did with the sons of the concubine – He sends them away. These are not of the star seed though they insist to the contrary. Perhaps you are the sand seed – filled with religious principle and the culture of the church but – God could die, and you would just shake the tambourine a little louder or add some more smoke to the smoke machines and turn down the lights a little lower on Sunday morning – and never notice that God made an exit?

Perhaps, however, you are the star seed. Seated in the heavens. Positioned in a constellation of relationships to other star seed – in a spiritual tribe established to declare God’s glory as the Psalmist said in Psalms 19:1:

[Psa 19:1 KJV] 1 [[To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.]] The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

The dust seed will read this and scratch their head, not understanding. The sand seed will read this and scoff – “poppycock!” But the star seed? They get it even if they don’t fully comprehend. They just know that they are not of this world but have a heritage in the heavens with a tribe, not of their choosing, born to give testimony to God’s glory in the earth.
