Election Day Prophetic Word

An Election Day Prophetic Word
On Tuesday, America will choose a new president. If you believe the polls’ suggestion, the country is evenly split between the two parties – half the country will be pleased with the outcome and half the country not so much – regardless of what your political party might be. As Christians, what is our posture to be, spiritually speaking, regarding the outcome of this election (or any election for that matter?)?
DON’T GLOAT.
Remember that pride goes before a fall. You will have neighbors, co-workers, and family members who are going to be disappointed with the election outcome, and your Christian testimony is on the line regarding how you respond. It is disheartening that so many otherwise zealous Christians excuse themselves from good Christian character by their actions and their words when politics are involved. Proverbs 13:10 tells us that “contention only comes by pride.” It doesn’t say – “unless politics are involved, then you can conduct yourselves any way you see fit…”
James tells us (Ja. 4:6) that God “resists the proud…” That word resist means “God sets his forces in array against the proud…” and if you are in contention in your words, actions, or spirit (the word of God is the Great Discerner), then you are proud. The seed of that pride will bring God’s resources not for you but against you until humility is restored. Do you understand the scope of this truth? In 2020, President Trump made the statement in a Republican debate, “Only I can save America!” At that moment, in my spirit, I heard, “For this saying, he will not win re-election.” And, of course, he didn’t. I must say in follow up to this that in the current election cycle, Mr. Trump has demonstrated a humbler posture, and that’s a good thing whether he wins or not.
DON’T RAIL:
If your candidate doesn’t win the election, what comes out of your mouth next will reveal your Christian character (or lack thereof). What is our posture to be when we have leaders not of our liking over the nation? Remember the early church. Nero was burning Christians in his garden parties when Paul wrote, “pray for those in authority…” (1 Tim. 2:2) and Rom. 13:1, “… let every soul be subject to [those] in power. There is no power but of God, the powers that be are ordained of God…” This explains why the early church was NOT an activist church or an insurgent church. Yet through humility, prayer, and their testimony, in due time, Rome itself bowed its knee at the foot of the Cross, and Christianity became the faith of the realm. Remember this. Think about it. Go to the scriptures and hold yourself and your political leanings and responses up to the Divine Scrutiny of God’s word.
Don’t say, “Not my president…” You may not have voted for the candidate who wins, but do you believe the Bible? Dan. 2:21 tells us that God raises up rulers and removes rulers… When we spew vitriol and hate at those in power, we are shaking our fists in God’s face. Jude 1:9 tells us that the archangel Michael would not rail against Satan himself but said what? “The Lord rebuke you…” In other words, he prayed, and that is what we should do. In 1 Chron. 7:14 We have a promise that IF we pray, (not if we vote) God will heal our land… Yes, we should all vote but I’ve got news for you – politics cannot save us, and when we put energies and passion into the political process that only belongs to God – that is idolatry. Making this mistake, committing this sin will extract a heavy price on the nation, on our people, and upon us. Humble yourself – win or lose.
DON’T FEAR:
History tells us that approximately the time of Jesus’ resurrection, a sailor off the coast of Italy was on deck in the middle of the night and heard a disembodied voice crying out, “Pan” is dead! Pan was a demi-god figure in the Roman pantheon of pagan gods, and among other things, he was the god of “panic” or fear. Let me tell you something – there is no fear in Christ. There is no panic in Christ. Ps. 19:9 tells us, “The fear of the Lord is clean…” That means that every other fear, political, or otherwise, DERIVES FROM AN UNCLEAN SPIRIT. Let the word discern you – are you allowing the uncleanness of fear to pollute your testimony? Change your heart, change your mind, and see how God moves even in the midst of unstable times to bless, lead, and protect you in all things.
LOVE IS THE KEY:
In John 13:35, Jesus declared that the world would know us as belonging to Christ – not by our political affiliations or passions – but by our love for one another and for even those in opposition to our values that occasionally wind up in power. Pray for your friends and just as important pray for your enemies. David fasted for his enemies when he heard they were sick or suffering, and he was a man after God’s own heart.
LET US PRAY:
When early Christians would meet one another along the way, they would often hail each other with the greeting, “Do I find you praying?” This nation needs a prayer revolution, and I believe that events in our world will continue to be turbulent at a level that could change to a large degree if the church would pray like it has never prayed before.
In the birth of the early church Jesus told the disciples to go into all the world after they received the Upper Room experience. Yet for several years there was not a robust response to that Great Commission. Instead, the apostles set up their headquarters in Jerusalem and started a Christian commune. Eventually harsh persecution came, and they did go into all the world – but had they gone when Jesus told them to – the wave of persecution that came to drive them out of the city wouldn’t have been necessary. Likewise let’s pray BEFORE we get in trouble and see the hand of God move in our nation.
In the Old Testament God instructed the Israelites in exile to “pray for the cities of their captivity…” Let us pray for our candidates, our elected officials, the cities where we live, the churches we attend, our leaders, and for one another and our neighbors, even if the political sign in their yard isn’t to your approval.
CONCLUSION
What is the point of all this? Let us bear in mind that the political season does not give us the right to suspend good Christian character and risk our testimony in the interests of our right or left leaning sentiments. We are not called to be political animals but spiritual people, purchased by the blood of the Cross, redeemed from Satan, sin, and ourselves. I urge you and encourage you to let your light shine before men in this time so that they see your faith first and your politics second, if at all – that Christ might be glorified above all the larger-than-life, false saviors regardless of what side of the aisle they originate.
