Divine Guidance for You as a Son of God:
Walking with God through the challenges of life and seeking God’s intervention extends far beyond resolving immediate problems. While there certainly are those times when God provides relief from present troubles, the end goal is to lead us into sonship and cleansing, presenting us without spot or wrinkle before the Lord.
Ephesians 5:27 – That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
The Call to Sonship
Being a child of God, a son of God, is not merely a message but a lofty calling. It is the highest order of God: the encrusted, the elect, and the overcomers. God is raising up a company of people, giving them a pure language, cleansing them from all that displeases Him. This First Fruits Company will be used to perfect the Church and bring all things into divine order.
1 Corinthians 15:23 – But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
The Need for Divine Guidance
Jeremiah 10:23 – O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
This scripture clearly states that we cannot direct our own steps. If we are to move forward, we must have direction from a source beyond ourselves. For the sons of God, that source is divine guidance.
Romans 8:14 – For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Unconditional Guidance
Unconditional guidance is the sovereign hand of God directing our paths, often without our conscious awareness or request. It is the divine orchestration of circumstances that leads us to salvation and sets us on the path of sonship.
Acts 13:48 – And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
Conditional Guidance
Conditional guidance comes after we have experienced the unconditional grace of God. It is direction based on our obedience and willingness to fulfill certain conditions.
Isaiah 58:10-11 – And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
Principles of Conditional Guidance
-
Unselfishness: Divine guidance leads us into a life of unselfishness, reflecting the very nature of God, which is love. 1 John 4:8 – He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
-
Trust in God: We must fully trust in the Lord, relinquishing our own understanding and relying on His divine wisdom. Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
-
Sincerity of Heart: Our intentions must be pure and our commitment unwavering, avoiding false pretenses and fully embracing the will of God. Jeremiah 42:20 – For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.
Checks and Balances
To ensure we are truly following divine guidance, we must employ checks and balances:
-
The Word of God: Our experiences and revelations must align with the infallible truth of scripture. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
-
The Spirit of God: We must test the spirits to discern if they are truly from God, relying on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. 1 John 4:1 – Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out7 into the world.
-
Divine Providence: We must consider the circumstances and opportunities that arise, recognizing that God often works through them to direct our paths. Proverbs 11:3 – The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
Unfavorable Circumstances and Divine Guidance
Difficult or unfavorable circumstances do not necessarily indicate that we are outside of God’s will. They may be opportunities for chastening, discipline, or the building of sonship principles within us.
Mark 4:35-38 – And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
Reflection and Review
The journey of sonship is one of continual growth and transformation. It requires us to surrender our own understanding, embrace divine guidance, and walk in obedience to God’s Word. As we yield to His direction, we will be shaped into the image of Christ and become vessels fit for His glorious purpose.
