A Tale of Two Enochs – Which One are You?

Genesis 5:24 tells us that Enoch walked with God and was taken to heaven without the necessity of experiencing death. As we look into the life of Enoch, we contemplate whether this extraordinary experience can be attainable for us today. 1 Thess. chapter four suggests a corporate (group) resurrection of those living on the earth, caught away to God in a moment of time. This is a “corporate” experience that was singular and unique for Enoch. The scriptures also speak of baptism in water and in the Spirit and a baptism of fire that some equate to or term “body-felt salvation.” So the question remains, can we walk with God as Enoch walked? Can we experience what Enoch experienced in being caught up to the Father? Let us explore the character of Enoch, considering that there were two individuals named Enoch mentioned in Scripture. One Enoch belonged to the lineage of Cain, while the other was an ancestor of Noah and had a unique encounter with God.

There were two Enochs. Which One are You?

Who Was Enoch? To understand Enoch fully, we need to acknowledge the existence of two distinct Enos in the Bible. The first Enoch was linked to Cain and demonstrated a self-centered and earthly focus. Meanwhile, the second Enoch, mentioned in Genesis 5:24, was dedicated to God and possessed a heavenly perspective. It is important to note that everyone embodies the spirit of Enoch; each person is dedicated and consecrated to something. The crucial question is: what will consume and define us? What testimony will we leave behind?

Both Enochs were dedicated and passionate individuals. However, the first Enoch was devoted to self and outward pursuits, while the second Enoch was committed to God and upward unity. In Jane Leade’s work, “Enochian Walks with God,” she describes an inner paradise where the glory of God resides within every believer. According to her revelation from Colossians 1:26-27, she understood that Christ within us is the source of hope and glory, not solely obtained through external and esoteric spiritual experiences.

Enoch’s heart was attuned to the inner life, recognizing the inner universe within ourselves where God dwells and establishes transformation. Paul’s words in Colossians 1:27 express this truth: “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” In this realization, we are replenished and encounter the very essence of God’s life, intimately connecting with His presence both inside us and around us. This profound intimacy brings us to the dwelling place of God, where we partake in the same satisfaction enjoyed by the angels before His majestic throne.

Let us strive to walk like Enoch walked, talk like Enoch talked, and perhaps go where Enoch went in time. May our lives be dedicated and consecrated to God, allowing Him to transform us from within. By seeking this inner connection and manifesting God’s presence in our lives, we can emulate Enoch’s example of living a life dedicated to God and the advancement of His kingdom.

A much needed word to turn the focus of the believer from outward dependencies to the presence and provision of God available in the glory that is Christ in us.
Thank you for profound teaching as usual.
