Why a word for the coming year is worth asking for now

Well, it’s that time that comes back every year, when people ask for a prophetic word over their lives for the year ahead. They want a word they can carry into January and still be holding in December at the end of the year. For the year in front of us, that request is a word for 2027.

I want to tell you why that request is worth making, and then I want you to make it.
A year will meet you either way. Work will ask things of you. Your house will face decisions. Some doors will open, and some will stay shut longer than you hoped. The question is not whether 2027 will require faith. The question is whether you will walk it with a word from the Father, or only with whatever pressure, memory, and last year’s unfinished business hand you.
This is not a new fashion. It is one of the ordinary ways prophetic people have learned to begin a season. They ask. They do not wait to see what the year does to them and then hunt for a scripture that fits the damage. They put themselves in front of God while the year is still ahead of them, and they say, “Speak over my life for what is coming.”

01 A practice the church already knows
You already know this request
You have seen it. Someone writes. Someone stays after a meeting. Someone sits down and says, in plain language, “I need a word for the coming year.” They are not shopping for a slogan. They are asking for a word they can pray, write down, and come back to when the months get heavy.
Scripture already ties a settled life to what you believe God has spoken.
“Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”
— 2 Chronicles 20:20, King James Version
The daily word we send is for the wider body. It meets many people on the same morning with the same encouragement, and it will keep doing that. A word for your year is different. It is personal. It concerns your life, your house, your assignment, and the faith you will need for the months that belong to you. One does not replace the other. The church is fed in common. A life is also directed in particular.

You need a pastor. You also need the prophetic. That verse does not treat a prophet’s word as an extra for people who enjoy that kind of meeting. It treats belief in what God speaks through His servants as part of how His people are established, and part of how they prosper. Prosper, there, is not a promise of an easy year. It is the fruit of a life ordered by a word you actually believed.
02 What the word is for
Edify, exhort, and comfort across twelve months
Paul tells us what prophecy is supposed to do when it is healthy.
“But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.”
— 1 Corinthians 14:3, King James Version
A true word for 2027 should do those three things for a whole year, not for a single Sunday.
It should edify you. It should build you and give you something solid to stand on when a month does not look like progress. It should exhort you, calling you forward and keeping you from settling into a smaller life than the one the Father has named. And it should comfort you. A year can include delay, loss, and a fight you did not put on the calendar. Comfort is not softness. It is the Father refusing to leave you alone inside what the year brings.

Paul also told Timothy what to do with a word that had already been spoken over him.
“This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare.”

That is the use of a word of the year. It is not a decoration for the first week of January. It is a divine directive you can return to in March, in August, and in November. You remind your own heart what was spoken. You pray it. You refuse to let one hard week become the only voice in the house.
Say this plainly to yourself before you ask. A word for the year is not fortune-telling. Nobody honest will hand you a month-by-month map of 2027, and you should not ask for one. The Father is not obligated to satisfy curiosity. He does speak to edify, to exhort, and to comfort. A personal word does not replace the Bible, a pastor, or ordinary obedience. It takes its place beside them, so you have something specific to believe while you keep doing what Scripture already requires.
03 Why the asking matters
A word you never request is a word you cannot carry
Jesus kept this part simple.
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
— Matthew 7:7, King James Version
Some of you have hoped for a sense of direction and have never actually asked. You have been helped by the daily word, and that help was real. You have still never put your own life in front of the Father and requested a word for the year you are about to enter. Hoping is not the same thing as asking. A word you never requested is a word you cannot write down, cannot pray, and cannot war with when the year presses you.

Habakkuk was told to take what was shown to him and make it plain enough to run with.
“Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”
— Habakkuk 2:2, King James Version
That is easier when the word arrives before the year is already in motion. If you wait until February, the first months will be spent reacting. If you ask now, you give the word time to settle. You can write it. You can let your house hear it. You can walk into January already knowing the posture the Father has named, instead of borrowing one from the news or from last year’s fatigue.
There is another reason, and it is a kindly one. Many of you are tired. You are still carrying a year that has not quite let go of you. A requested word interrupts that. It puts the Father’s voice ahead of the pressure. You are not asking Him to pretend the hard things did not happen. You are asking Him to speak over what is next, so the next year is not governed only by what the last one cost you.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
— Proverbs 29:18, King James Version
A people with nothing clear in front of them do not stay steady. They drift. The second half of that verse keeps us honest. The word you receive does not release you from Scripture. It gives your obedience a direction for the year in front of you. You keep what God has already written, and you also keep the word He speaks over this season.
Some of you need to make this request for someone you love. A son or a daughter stepping into a new assignment. A husband or wife who cannot find language for what they are facing. The request can be for your own life, or for a loved one. Either way, someone has to make it. Silence does not submit it for you.
Make the request
Go to the Request Prophetic Word page. Give your name, where you are from, and the miracle you are believing God for as 2027 comes into view. In your own words, ask for a prophetic word over your life, or over the life of someone you love, for the coming year. Say that you are requesting your word for 2027. Name the place where you need the Father’s voice: your house, your work, your health, your calling, or a decision that will not wait.

When the word comes, write it down. Make it plain. Read it on an ordinary Tuesday, not only on the day it arrives. Let it edify you, exhort you, and comfort you. War a good warfare with it. Believe the Lord, and believe the word He sends. Order 2027 around what He says.
I have watched people make this request for thirty years. The ones who ask are not more spiritual than the ones who hesitate. They are simply unwilling to enter a year without putting a request in front of the Father. Make yours. Do it for your own life. Do it, if you need to, for someone you love. Then keep the word when it comes, and let 2027 be answered by what He says, not only by what the calendar demands.
Come with something in your hand
Do not come before the Lord empty
“And they shall not appear before the LORD empty: Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.”
— Deuteronomy 16:16–17, King James Version
When you ask for a prophetic word, you are coming before the Lord for a ministry response. Do not come empty. A gift given in faith, and given in appreciation for that prophetic response, is God-honoring. It treats the word as something you value. It is not God-honoring to expect something for nothing. You bring what you are able, according to the blessing the Lord has already put in your hand. Nonetheless, whether you donate or not, we gladly do our part. We will still minister to your life. The word is not held back from the person who comes with nothing to give. We tell you what Scripture says about honor, and we still go to the Father for you.
