His Name is – Breakthrough

By some accounts, there are 995 names of God in the Bible. In Psalm 118:25, there is one name of God that may surprise you. This verse rests between two passages that refer directly to Jesus, as the stone, which the builder rejected (v. 22); and “blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord…(v. 26).” What is this surprising name of the Lord? Let’s read the verse:

Psalms 118:25 Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.

David is not just asking for prosperity here. Just as we say Jesus is our savior or Jesus is our healer, David is saying that Jesus (the Messiah) is the personification of Prosperity. This doesn’t refer to prosperity in the general sense but specifically “Breakthrough.” Jesus is your breakthrough. The Hebrew word here means “to break out mightily.” Are you ready for a breakthrough in your life? Your breakthrough is not just an event or a series of blessings, Jesus IS your breakthrough, and if you have Him, you have all that is needed for things to be different in your life. Paul makes a similar statement in Rom. 8:32:

Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

This verse establishes what some call “the finished work of Calvary.” It expresses that if God gave you Jesus, there is little that He would withhold from you – in fact, the verse maintains that WITH HIM God gave you ALL things – 2000 years ago. This is one of the great Father-facts of the Bible. Many teach that God withholds and refuses to answer prayer for many reasons, but here Paul is saying if God gave you heaven’s best when you were in sin, an enemy of God – what lesser gift would He not give you?

Lastly, we see that God doesn’t give you THINGS He gives you HIMSELF. In reality, He put all things under man’s dominion in Adam saving Himself and then because of sin gave Himself likewise. In Christ, Jesus is our salvation, our healing, our protection, and our provision. He did not give us many things outside Himself, He gave us Himself, and in Him are all things. Prayer that attempts to coax God to grant something He allegedly withholds does not take this into account. We need to reframe our prayers by reframing our understanding of what the gospel actually says. Religion will never get this and, in fact, vehemently depicts God as a withholding God. God is not a withholding God. He so loved that He gave and with that great Gift of Himself, freely gave us all things. He IS your breakthrough.
