God is a Wall of Fire Around You

In the book of Zechariah, the prophet sees that God is a wall of protection around His people, protecting them from every threat of the enemy:

[Zec 2:5 KJV] 5 For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

The glory that Zechariah witnesses is the same glory that Paul declares live IN you as the Hope of Glory (Col. 1:26-27). Remember when you are threatened that verses like this speak directly to your situation. We indeed have an unseen enemy always lurking and purposing to bring us to hurt – but God. In Zech. 9:8, Zechariah speaks by the Spirit of God that God encamps around us to ward off the attack of the enemy and to assure us that the oppressor will “no more pass through” our lives anymore:

Zechariah 9:8 And I will encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.

Do you ever feel surrounded? Notice the scope of the promise – NO OPPRESSOR will trespass your border. Make a choice to see things as they really are. Yes, you are surrounded not by the enemy but by God Himself. Ezekiel 8:2 says that God is a fire from His waist upward and His waist downward. Deu. 4:24 says that our God is a consuming fire. God doesn’t just bring the fire – He is the fire. He is the fire of glory IN us, and the fire of glory AROUND us to deliver you from every oppression of the enemy.

What is oppression? In Zech. 9:8, the word “oppressor” means “harassment, distress, demanding pressure.” Do you have demanding pressure in your life? Stress from financial obligations, health problems, relationship difficulties? These things don’t just have a human origination – they are the work of the enemy that God is driving off from your life. So take heart today – in the provisions of Christ, the Father promises to you NO MORE! How will He accomplish this? Not by man or by man’s way of doing things. He will deliver you by surrounding you with Himself as a consuming fire to destroy every yoke and every burden the enemy seeks to crush you with. This is God’s positive promise, so don’t give in to the pressure – let it be burned up in the fire who is your God that lives in you and surrounds you with His protection!
