Go Up, Bald Head?

In 2 Kings 2:23, a group of young men taunts Elisha to show them a sign. They chanted “go up bald head…” meaning they wanted him to prove he was a prophet by ascending in a fiery chariot like his master Elijah. The reference to a bald head is actually suggesting that Elisha was “uncovered” or did not have the mantle of his master Elijah. These young despisers died for their mockery.

Today people who won’t believe a prophet without a word of knowledge about their situation are dangerously close to mocking the prophetic. They are making the same challenge that the young men above made, that the prophet has to prove his anointing by doing something to disprove their baseline posture of unbelief. This is handling the prophetic no different than going to psychics.

2 Chron. 20:20 does not say “believe the prophecies” and you will prosper, but “believe the PROPHETS…” Knowing the difference between the two makes all the difference in one’s heart toward the office of prophet.
