Introduction:
The Lord’s Prayer carries with it a depth of impact on our lives that touches every aspect of our lives with a particular emphasis on natural resources and blessings:
[Mat 6:12 KJV] 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
The Lord’s Prayer includes two specific references to financial supply, specifically your daily needs and creature comforts (daily bread) and your long-term financial solvency (forgive us our debts). Jesus is inviting us to be debt free and well supplied.
The Progressive Revelation of the Lord’s Prayer:
In Matthew 6:12 Jesus taught his followers how to approach God in prayer. Each part of the Lord’s prayer builds upon the one previous beginning with the establishment of the Paternity of God in your life through the New Birth. This prayer covers the following matters
Emphasis: Original Language Meaning:
1. Our Father Your Paternity in God
2. Hallowed be thy Name Participation in the Covenant
3. Thy Kingdom Come Participation in His Authority
4. Daily Bread Practical consideration of Supply
5. Forgive Debts Freedom from Bondage
6. As We Forgive Willing Reciprocity Toward Others
7. Not into Temptation Pushing the Envelope (to Assay)
8. Deliverance from Evil Rescue from Vicious Evil
9. Kingdom, Power, Glory Rule, Force, Obvious Magnificence
Our Father:
[Rom 8:15 KJV] 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Everything God is to us He is as our Father. That means that His blessing doesn’t come us as mere recompense but as entitlement to us as Sons.
Hallowed be Thy Name:
[Phil 2:9-11 KJV] 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth; 11 And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The invocation of His name brings instance capitulation from the enemy. He can resist you in your humanity, he can resist your braggadocio, he can mock your religiosity but he cannot resist or stand against the name of Jesus. When you invoke that name as one who is living within the implications of the Paternity of God in your life, Satan can only and has no choice but to bend and to bow.
Thy Kingdom Come:
[Isa 9:6-7 KJV] 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of [his] government and peace [there shall be] no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
When you invoke the authority of the kingdom of God you invoke His governance, His counsel, His might, His peace, His increase, His order and the performance of His word all by the words of faith on the lips of a believing heart.
Thy Will be Done:
[Jer 29:11 KJV] 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
[3Jo 1:2 KJV] 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
The will of God carries with it thoughts of peace and not of evil. That word peace is the Hebrew word “Shalom,” meaning:
To be well, happy, to be in health, prosperity, peace, to fare well, to have favor, to be at peace, to rest, be safe, complete, sound, quiet, tranquil in all human conditions and relationships.
What is the measure of what is available to us? To the extent define in the phrase “as in heaven so on earth.” What does this look like? The parameters of this blessing is laid out for us in 1 John 4:17:
[1Jo 4:17 KJV] 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
