In today’s assignment, we lift up domestic United States issues, trusting the instruction of 1 Timothy 2:1‑2 to pray for leaders and all peoples.

Our first prayer focus is for Detroit, Michigan.

The Detroit Free Press reported on October 23, 2026, that the city police department used force to disperse a peaceful demonstration outside City Hall, resulting in several arrests.

Father, we ask that Your peace settle over the streets of Detroit, that hearts of officers and demonstrators be softened, and that justice be administered with mercy.

In the name of Jesus, I decree that the Spirit of reconciliation flows through Detroit, that every confrontation turns to dialogue, and that Your righteousness prevails over violence.

Our second prayer focus is for the State of Texas.

The Texas Tribune reported on October 22, 2026, that the Texas Legislature passed House Bill 4623, which imposes new restrictions on abortion clinics, limiting their operating hours to six per week.

Lord, we pray for wisdom and compassion to guide the legislators, that they would protect the unborn while also caring for women in crisis, and that Your truth would be evident in every policy.

In Jesus’ name I declare that the voice of the unborn is heard, that compassion and life‑affirming solutions arise, and that the law reflects Your holy standards.

Our third prayer focus is for the city of Orlando, Florida.

The Orlando Sentinel reported on October 21, 2026, that the Orange County School Board voted to remove a longstanding prayer banner from the main auditorium of a public high school.

Father, we ask that You stir the hearts of the board members to recognize the importance of religious expression in public life, and that they would seek a solution that honors both constitutional liberty and community tradition.

In the authority of Jesus I command that freedom of worship be protected in Orlando’s schools, that a respectful compromise be found, and that Your name be glorified in the halls of education.

Our fourth prayer focus is for the State of California.

The Los Angeles Times reported on October 20, 2026, that the California Supreme Court scheduled oral arguments for a case involving a church’s right to refuse services that conflict with its religious convictions.

Lord, grant the justices discernment to uphold the biblical principle of religious liberty, and may Your Spirit guide the proceedings toward a verdict that honors the Church’s conscience.

In Jesus’ name I decree that the court affirms the church’s right to act according to Scripture, that the decision stands as a testimony to liberty, and that believers throughout California are encouraged to stand firm.

Our fifth prayer focus is for New York City, New York.

The New York Post reported on October 24, 2026, that the city’s Department of Homeless Services announced the closure of a downtown shelter that had been serving over 200 families due to a budget shortfall.

Father, we intercede for those families now without a safe place, that You would provide provision through churches, charities, and generous donors, and that the city officials would find a sustainable solution quickly.

In the name of Jesus I command that resources be released, that a new shelter be opened within the week, and that those in need experience Your loving care and provision.
