DAILY INTERCESSOR’S UPDATE

Today’s assignment focuses on the persecuted church. We turn our hearts toward those who are arrested, restricted, attacked, or silenced for their faith. We stand in the gap for these brothers and sisters, honoring their courage and praying for the continued advancement of the gospel in the face of opposition. The Apostle Paul instructs us in 1 Timothy 2:1–2 to make every kind of request, intercession, and thanksgiving for all people, including those in authority. It is a solemn and sacred mandate to pray for the wellbeing of all, even when that prayer is for those who are currently opposing the truth. We pray with a settled assurance, trusting God’s sovereignty over every situation.

“Prayer is not the means of getting God to do our will; it is the means of getting us to do His.”

— A. W. Tozer

“The more you pray, the more you will want to pray.”

— Ellen G. White

Our first prayer focus is for the believers in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, who were recently detained by authorities during a small-scale gathering.

According to reports from the Committee to Protect Journalists, local security forces raided a private residence in the Tashkent region on September 28th, arresting three individuals for conducting unauthorized prayer meetings. The reports indicate that the participants were subjected to questioning regarding their religious affiliations and their sources of funding, a common tactic used to discourage informal worship in the area.

We ask the Father to grant these detained believers a profound sense of your presence and protection. We pray for clarity for their families, who are likely facing anxiety and uncertainty, and we pray that you would strengthen the spiritual bonds of the local church body so that persecution does not fracture their unity.

In the name of Jesus, we decree that no fear shall take root in the hearts of these believers. We declare that the truth of the gospel remains unshakable and that your divine protection surrounds them, neutralizing any intent to harm their spirit or suppress their testimony.

Our second prayer focus is for the pastor in Lagos, Nigeria, who was charged with inciting insurrection after preaching a sermon on justice.

A recent report by the Voice of Nigeria detailed the legal proceedings against Pastor Emmanuel Okafor, a leader of a mid-sized congregation in the Lagos mainland. Authorities cited his recent sermons as violating public order laws, leading to his arrest and a trial scheduled for early next month. The report notes that his congregation has maintained a peaceful vigil outside the courthouse to show support.

We petition the Lord to provide wisdom to the judges and legal officials involved in this case. We pray for the health and stamina of Pastor Okafor as he navigates this legal challenge, and for the strength of his wife and children who are carrying the weight of this public scrutiny.

In the name of Jesus, we speak liberty to the bonds of this unjust accusation. We declare that the courts shall be filled with the fear of the Lord, and that justice shall be rendered swiftly and fairly, vindicating the name of Christ in this jurisdiction.

Our third prayer focus is for the Christian families in New Cairo, Egypt, who are facing new restrictions on building or repairing their homes.

As reported by the Middle East Christian Monitor, local municipal authorities in the New Cairo district have issued notices to several Christian families, halting construction permits for home repairs and expansions. The specific fact cited in the report is that these permits were revoked without clear legal justification, citing “community harmony” as the vague reason for the denial.

We ask God to be a refuge and strength for these families who are seeing their homes and stability threatened. We pray for the courage of community leaders who are advocating for equal treatment under the law, and for the peace of mind of children who may be confused by the sudden changes in their neighborhood.

In the name of Jesus, we decree that no administrative decree shall stand against the rights granted by the Creator. We declare that these families shall find stability and provision, and that the spirit of discrimination shall be broken in the hearts of local officials.

Our fourth prayer focus is for the church members in Dhaka, Bangladesh, who were attacked while leaving a prayer meeting.

According to a local news outlet, the Daily Star, a group of individuals threw stones and insults at a group of Christians as they exited a small church in the Mirpur area of Dhaka on Sunday evening. The report states that while no serious physical injuries were confirmed, the incident caused significant distress and fear among the attendees, particularly among the younger members.

We bring this incident before the throne of grace, asking for divine protection over the physical safety of these believers. We pray for the emotional healing of those who were targeted, and for the boldness to continue gathering in worship without being driven away by fear.

In the name of Jesus, we command the spirit of hostility and hatred to depart from this location. We declare that the peace of God shall guard the hearts and minds of these believers, and that no weapon of terror shall succeed in silencing their praise.

Our fifth prayer focus is for the online ministry leaders in Beijing, China, who have had their digital platforms suspended.

A report by the Persecuted Church Coalition noted that several Christian influencers and small group leaders in Beijing had their social media accounts and streaming platforms disabled within the past week. The specific action taken was the deletion of their content and the freezing of their accounts, effectively cutting off their ability to share the gospel digitally with their existing audience.

We pray for the persistence of these digital ministers, that they would not grow weary in well-doing. We ask for creative ways to maintain connection with their flock and for the protection of their personal data and privacy in this increasingly monitored environment.

In the name of Jesus, we decree that the channels of communication shall remain open for the proclamation of the truth. We declare that the gospel is not confined to any single platform, and that the Spirit of God will guide these leaders to find new and faithful ways to reach their people.
