Warring Against Witchcraft: Defeating the Enemy’s Schemes:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12 KJV)
This passage reminds us that our battle is not against people, but against spiritual forces. The enemy, Satan, seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10 KJV). He uses various tactics, including witchcraft, to hinder our walk with God and prevent us from fulfilling our destiny.
Understanding Witchcraft
Witchcraft is not just about spells and potions. It is rooted in the flesh, in the unsanctified human spirit. Galatians 5:19-21 lists witchcraft among the “works of the flesh,” alongside other sins like adultery, idolatry, and hatred.
“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21 KJV)
This tells us that before witchcraft is a “spirit,” it first derives from the flesh. This is important because if you don’t strike at the heart of witchcraft, it will continue to operate. This can function in anyone, even Christians, when their opinions, prayers, and judgments deviate from the character and heart of God. Let that be a “selah” moment – Witchcraft manifests in a purely human and pernicious influence that demons back up and augment when someone harbors thoughts, expectations, or actions toward you that contradict God’s plans and purposes. It can be subtle, like negative opinions or gossip, or more overt, like curses or hexes.
Defanging the Snake: Strategies for Spiritual Warfare
-
Spiritual Housecleaning: Just as we clean our physical homes, we must also cleanse our spiritual environment. This involves removing objects associated with the occult or negative energy. “And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.” (Deuteronomy 12:3 KJV)
-
Anointing with Oil: Anoint your home, car, and personal belongings with oil, praying for God’s protection and declaring His Lordship over your life and possessions. “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:” (James 5:14 KJV)
-
Rearranging Your Environment: Demons hate change. Rearranging your furniture, redecorating, or even moving to a new location can disrupt their influence. “And he arose, and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:” (Matthew 2:14 KJV)
-
Prayer: Pray for God’s protection and deliverance from witchcraft. Ask Him to “bless away” those who oppose you and to occupy them elsewhere. “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (Luke 11:9 KJV)
-
Discretion: Be mindful of what you share with others. “A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.” (Proverbs 29:11 KJV) Do not give your enemies information they can use against you.
Reflection and Review
Spiritual warfare is a reality for every believer. The enemy is relentless, but God is greater. By implementing these strategies and staying vigilant in prayer, we can overcome the enemy’s schemes and walk in victory. Remember, “greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4 KJV)
