Unlocking Your Kingdom Portfolio: More Than Just Money:
We live in a world obsessed with wealth. There is natural wealth, and there is spiritual wealth. Natural wealth derives from the economy of men, but spiritual wealth derives from the riches that are found in the glory of God. Just what is the currency of the kingdom? It isn’t bitcoin, or cryptocurrency, or any such thing. The currency of the kingdom is YOUR FAITH. Faith is the medium of exchange that brings heaven down to earth and manifests the substance of things hoped for. It is the evidence of things not yet seen that you are believing in. From financial news to social media feeds, the measure of success often seems tied to the zeroes in our bank accounts or the size of our possessions. But what if I told you that true riches aren’t measured in dollars, stocks, or real estate? What if there’s an entirely different economy, a different sphere of abundance, where the currency is something far more valuable than gold?
This is the profound truth Jesus reveals in Luke 12:21, which culminates the Parable of the Rich Fool: “So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
Garnering and Developing Wealth “in the Sphere of God”
The Greek word translated “toward” here is eis (εἰς), a preposition that can mean “into,” “to,” or “in the sphere of.” Or, in context “in the sphere of God.” When we consider being “rich eis Theon,” or “rich in the sphere of God,” it opens up a breathtaking perspective. It speaks of a wealth that exists within the very realm of God’s dominion – His Kingdom.
The Kingdom’s Currency: Faith
If the Kingdom of God is a sphere of divine abundance, what then is its currency? How do we acquire and exchange riches within this divine economy? The answer, beloved, is faith.
Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith isn’t just a belief; it’s a spiritual substance. It’s the tangible commodity that allows us to access, interact with, and thrive within the Kingdom of God.
- When we pray in faith, we’re depositing into our heavenly account.
- When we obey God’s Word in faith, we’re making a wise investment.
- When we give generously in faith, we’re releasing Kingdom currency that yields eternal returns.
- When we forgive in faith, we’re clearing spiritual debts and opening pathways for grace.
The rich fool in Jesus’ parable was wealthy in the world’s currency but utterly bankrupt in the Kingdom. He accumulated “treasure for himself,” a self-serving pursuit that had no value in God’s eyes. His barns were full, but his spirit was empty. When his soul was “required of him,” all his earthly riches became worthless.
Being “Rich in the Sphere of God”
To be “rich in the sphere of God” means:
- Your Wealth is God-Centric: Your true assets are those things that align with God’s will and bring Him glory. It’s not about what you possess, but what you invest in God’s eternal purposes.
- Your Resources are Heavenly: You are storing up treasure in heaven, where it is secure from decay, theft, and market crashes. This treasure includes acts of righteousness, love for others, and selfless service.
- Your Life is Fueled by Faith: You understand that access to God’s power, provision, and peace comes through active faith. You trust Him for your daily bread, your guidance, and your ultimate destiny.
- Your Abundance is Eternal: Unlike earthly riches that vanish at death, the wealth accumulated in the sphere of God endures forever. It’s the only kind of wealth you can take with you.
Think about it: What good is a billion dollars if it cannot buy peace, joy, eternal life, or a clean conscience? These are the true riches, and they are purchased not with worldly cash, but with the currency of faith in the Kingdom of God.
