Redeeming the Time When You are In the Wilderness

We all spend time in the wilderness at certain points in our walk with God. In those times of struggle with brokenness and the lingering echoes of past wounds, the promise of restoration can seem distant. Yet, the heart of the Gospel is one of redemption and wholeness. In this post, we will consider the transformative power of God’s grace, exploring how He mends the fragmented pieces of our lives and sets us on a path to renewed purpose.

Redeeming the Time in the Wilderness

“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16 KJV)

Life presents seasons of both abundance and barrenness. There are times when God feels near and others when we sense His absence. Yet, even in those times of seeming separation, God is working. We are called to redeem time and use every moment for His glory. This may mean immersing ourselves in His Word, even when we feel nothing, trusting that He will use those seeds planted in faith.

The Power of Cleansing in the Wilderness

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9 KJV)

Past experiences, especially those involving broken relationships and unholy ties, can leave deep scars. These ties, though often invisible, can create emptiness and hinder our spiritual growth. But in the wilderness season you may be walking in, God offers cleansing. He desires to restore our souls, to gather the scattered pieces of ourselves and make us whole again.

Restoring the Soul in the Wilderness

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:1-3 KJV)

David’s words remind us that God is the ultimate restorer of our souls. Even when we are suffering and don’t always sense His nearness, he leads us to places of peace and renewal, mending the wounds that life inflicts. This restoration is not merely about erasing the past but about transforming it, turning our pain into a powerful testimony of God’s grace.

A New Mantle of Purity in the Wilderness

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV)

The wilderness trip can be a time of purging and purifying our souls till we are cleansed of spiritual consequences and brokenness from past sins and failures. God desires to clothe us in His purity. He sees us as blameless, not because of our own merit, but because of the cleansing power of Jesus’ blood. He places a mantle of holiness upon us, shielding us from the assaults of the enemy and guiding us towards our destiny.

The Gift of Intercession Coming Out of the Gap Time

“I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” (Ezekiel 22:30 KJV)

The wilderness season is what we can understand as a “gap season” between mountaintop experiences of strength and blessing. Make it your purpose to be “other’s oriented” even when our own pain demands nothing but all our attention. In these times, God calls us to stand in the gap, to intercede for others. This is a powerful act of love, where we bring the needs of others before God, trusting in His power to transform lives. Our own experiences of healing and restoration equip us to minister to those who are suffering, offering them hope and encouragement.

Generational Influence is the Dividend of Your Victory

“The plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.”7 (Amos 9:13 KJV)

Your walk with God, even your response in the midst of deep darkness and battle, your faith has the power to impact generations to come. God can take the seeds of our obedience and multiply them, creating a legacy of faith that extends far beyond our own lives. Even in broken family lines, God can build new foundations, establishing His kingdom in the hearts of our children and grandchildren.

A Time of Shifting into Newness and Freedom from the Past

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians8 5:17 KJV)

You may not feel like things will ever get any better but remember that God is the God of Second Chances. God is a God of new beginnings. He invites us to step into a new season, leaving behind the burdens of the past and embracing the promise of a transformed future. This is a time of shifting, a time of renewal, where God’s plan A is still on the table.

Reflection and Review

In this journey of restoration, we learn that God’s grace is sufficient to heal even the deepest wounds. His Word is a source of strength, His cleansing power brings wholeness, and His Spirit equips us to intercede for others. We are called to redeem the time, to embrace His purity, and to trust in His plan for our lives.
