1 Kings Chapter Six: You Have an Oracle in Your Temple. In this chapter Solomon finishes the temple. There are may types and shadows in the construction of Solomon’s temple and they all point to who Jesus is on the inside of you. The holiest place where the ark rests was called the oracle and it is a type of your heart where Jesus lives. You heart is the first oracle you should consult when you are inquiring of the Lord. The purpose of the prophetic is to usher you into and connect you with the oracle that is in your own heart and life. The dimensions of the temple further speak of the finishing season of God’s plan for man that we will see represents the time that you and I live in.
[1Ki 6:1-38 KJV] 1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which [is] the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD. 2 And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof [was] threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty [cubits], and the height thereof thirty cubits. 3 And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits [was] the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; [and] ten cubits [was] the breadth thereof before the house. 4 And for the house he made windows of narrow lights. 5 And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, [against] the walls of the house round about, [both] of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about: 6 The nethermost chamber [was] five cubits broad, and the middle [was] six cubits broad, and the third [was] seven cubits broad: for without [in the wall] of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that [the beams] should not be fastened in the walls of the house. 7 And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe [nor] any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building. 8 The door for the middle chamber [was] in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle [chamber], and out of the middle into the third. 9 So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar. 10 And [then] he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house [with] timber of cedar. 11 And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying, 12 [Concerning] this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father: 13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.
The temple of Solomon was constructed 480 years after the children of Israel came out of Egypt by Moses. When God appeared to Abraham in Genesis 15 He told him that his descendants would go into captivity for four generations which turned out to be 430 years. The time span between the writing of Malachi and the writing of the gospels was about 480 years. From the birth of Jesus to the establishment of Christianity as the state religion of the Roman empire was 380 years. It was 480 years between the Edict of Thessolinica in 380 and the crowning of Charlemane the king who united Western Europe under the Christian faith. From Charlemane to John Wycliffe who wrote the first English bible was 512 years. From Wycliffe to the first stirrings of the Pentecostal outpouring was 500 years. If you measure from the year that Luther penned his 99 theses to the door of the Wittenberg chapel in 1517 we are within 2 years of another 500 year season. It has been said that God steps through time in 500 year strides and history bears this out. We are living in historic times. In our lifespans even among the very young we have seen great change and no doubt this will continue.
The temple was threescore cubits in length, 20 cubits in depth and 30 cubits in height. The dimensions of the ark in Noah’s day was 300 cubits by 50 cubits by 30 cubits. We can see that the general shape of the ark and the temple was the same and the height and the fact it had three levels were exactly the same. If you take each score (20 cubits) and attribute it to a time length of 2000 years then the length of the temple matches the timeframe of recorded human history and the exact biblical timeframe from Eden until now – six thousand years. The three levels in 30 cubits speak to us of what Jesus referred to in Matt. 13:23 “… some 30, some 60, some 100 fold” in the experience of the kingdom. This corresponds to the three promised experiences in God – salvation, baptism in the Holy Ghost and the Baptism of fire which was prefigured in the law as the three great feasts of Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles. Thus in the temple dimensions we have the scope of salvation and the timeline of God’s purposes from Eden until now. This all points to the day we live in as a time when the temple God has been building into man coming to its completion in our season in history.
In the building of the temple there was no sound of tool or hammer or iron implements on the temple site. All of this had to be finished before the materials were added to the finished structure. The temple that you are is not a work of man but of God. Iron is a type of judgment, specifically in this place the judgment of man. If you are going to be a lively stone in this house you must leave all judgmentalism behind.
The word of the Lord came to Solomon during the construction of the temple that if he would be faithful in the midst of the building that God would perform his word. Now let scripture interpret the situation we see in the church. Do we see the word of God not being performed in our midst? Are there contradictions in Christian experience from the clear promise of scripture? Is it because of some obscure vagary of God’s sovereignty as the theologians suggest or because perhaps we haven’t been faithful as God exhorted Solomon?
14 So Solomon built the house, and finished it. 15 And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the cieling: [and] he covered [them] on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir. 16 And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built [them] for it within, [even] for the oracle, [even] for the most holy [place]. 17 And the house, that [is], the temple before it, was forty cubits [long]. 18 And the cedar of the house within [was] carved with knops and open flowers: all [was] cedar; there was no stone seen. 19 And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD. 20 And the oracle in the forepart [was] twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and [so] covered the altar [which was of] cedar. 21 So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold. 22 And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that [was] by the oracle he overlaid with gold. 23 And within the oracle he made two cherubims [of] olive tree, [each] ten cubits high. 24 And five cubits [was] the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other [were] ten cubits. 25 And the other cherub [was] ten cubits: both the cherubims [were] of one measure and one size. 26 The height of the one cherub [was] ten cubits, and so [was it] of the other cherub. 27 And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the [one] wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house. 28 And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.
The holiest place was referred to as the oracle. This is where the ark of the covenant was placed. The ark of the covenant was where God fixed His presence among the people. It represents the glory of God and the indwelling of Christ in our hearts. What the ark prefigures is who Jesus is on the inside of you. Before we consult any outward oracle we should consult and seek the inward oracle of Christ in us the hope of Glory. Then when the inward and the outward oracle agree nothing shall be impossible – only believe.
The oracle was decorated with open flowers and “knops” and cherubims. Flowers speak of the aroma of God’s presence. What is a knop? The word knop here is “peka” and it means “to burst”. It is an ornamental egg or gourd that is God’s way of saying “in here – in this oracle is where breakthrough or ‘bursting through’” can be experienced!
The cherubim in Solomon’s temple were made of olive wood overlaid with gold. Olive trees produced olive oil a type of the anointing. Thus we see an intrinsic connection of the angelic with the anointing. You may see the angels as guarding you personally and certainly they do but more importantly they are custodians and servants of the anointing of God wherever they find it.
29 And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without. 30 And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without. 31 And for the entering of the oracle he made doors [of] olive tree: the lintel [and] side posts [were] a fifth part [of the wall]. 32 The two doors also [were of] olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid [them] with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees. 33 So also made he for the door of the temple posts [of] olive tree, a fourth part [of the wall]. 34 And the two doors [were of] fir tree: the two leaves of the one door [were] folding, and the two leaves of the other door [were] folding. 35 And he carved [thereon] cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered [them] with gold fitted upon the carved work. 36 And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams. 37 In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif: 38 And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which [is] the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.
The doors for entering the oracle (the entrance to the holy of holies) were made of olive tree overlaid with gold. Gold represents the divine nature of God. The palm trees represent the prophetic. The prophetic is the only 5-fold ministry gifting associated with the types and shadows of Solomon’s temple. They decorate the door to the oracle made of olive wood. The purpose of the prophetic is to give you an inward opening and access to all that God is on the inside of you – in the oracle that your heart is where Christ lives just as the glory of God rested over the mercy seat in Solomon’s temple.
Olive trees produce oil and represent the anointing. Wood in the bible speaks of man in his humanity. Jesus was the Christ – the anointed one and He is the DOOR of salvation. We enter into the holiest place into God’s shekinah presence through THE anointed man Christ Jesus who has anointed US as men as well. The anointing is the key to entering in to all that God has for us. Doctrine does not bring us into God’s presence. Correct theology doesn’t put us under an open heaven. It is the anointing – the oil poured out upon all flesh as Joel 2:28 speaks of that brings us to the center of what God has for us in relationship to Himself.
The temple was seven years in building. In the seventh year the building ceased just as in the seventh day God rested from all His works. We are now in the seventh 1000 year day from Adam. 2 Pet. 3:8 tells us that 1000 years is as a day to the Lord and a 1000 years is as a day. The millennia we are now in is the 7th day Millennium from creation. It is a time of finishing and of coming into rest in God’s larger and broader purposes and you and I are intrinsically a part of this. God chose that you and I would be born to this generation and would be partakers of the finishing of this great corporate temple of which you and I are a part.
