Do You Even Want to Get Better? How to Get Out of the Stuck Place: In John 5:6 Jesus challenged a man who was a lifelong paralytic. He asked the man, in essence, Do you even want to get better? Seemingly an unkind question, but Jesus was making the effort to get the man out of a victim mentality to a posture of faith where the miracle he needed would become possible.
What about You?
In our journey of faith, we often encounter moments where we feel stuck, paralyzed by circumstances, or weighed down by the challenges of life. But even in these moments, God’s question to us remains: “Do you want to get better?” This isn’t a question of our desire, but a challenge to our faith and a call to action. Let’s explore how we can move from helplessness to hope, and from stagnation to breakthrough.
The Provoking Question
Jesus’s encounter with the paralytic at the pool of Bethesda is a powerful reminder that God challenges us to step into our healing and our potential.
John 5:6 KJV: “When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?”
Just as Jesus challenged the paralytic, He challenges us. Are we ready to rise above our circumstances and embrace the possibility of a miracle? This question is not about our desire, but about our willingness to believe and act.
The Principle of Action
The path to breakthrough involves aligning not just our beliefs, but our actions as well with God’s will. The man at the pool of Bethesda was there because of what he believed. He believed that one day some day an angel would come and he would be miraculously healed. His expectations was on “some day” and Jesus was offering him TODAY!
Matthew 6:33 KJV: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
When we prioritize seeking God’s kingdom and His righteousness, we position ourselves to receive all that He has for us. It’s about shifting our focus from our problems to His promises.
The Power of Being “Others” Oriented
One key to overcoming our own challenges is to become a source of breakthrough for others. What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you.
Luke 6:38 KJV: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
When we invest in the well-being of others, God ensures that our own needs are met, often in abundance.
The Chaos Decision: Becoming a Water Walker
Stepping out in faith often requires us to make what seems like a “chaos” decision – a decision that defies logic and embraces the impossible. It’s about becoming a “water walker,” trusting God to support us even when the path ahead seems uncertain.
Reflection and Review
The journey from helplessness to hope is a journey of faith and action. It requires us to:
- Answer the question: “Do you want to get better?” with a resounding “Yes!”
- Align our actions with God’s will, seeking His kingdom and righteousness above all else.
- Invest in the well-being of others, knowing that generosity unlocks God’s provision.
- Embrace the “chaos” decision, stepping out in faith even when the path ahead seems uncertain.
- Remember that God does not lie and that hope is always ahead.
Call to Action
- Identify: What is one area in your life where you need a breakthrough?
- Seek: What is God’s will for this situation? Spend time in prayer and study His Word.
- Act: What is one step of faith you can take today, even if it seems small or insignificant?
- Give: How can you be a blessing to someone else who is facing a similar challenge?
- Trust: Believe that God is working on your behalf, even if you don’t see immediate results.
