A Cry for Intimacy: Echoing the Longing of the Bride

In the the Song of Solomon, a passionate plea emerges, a longing for intimacy that transcends mere words and reaches for the very essence of connection. The bride, representing the church, yearns for the kisses of her beloved, Jesus, a symbol of the deepest, most intimate communion.

“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: For thy love is better than wine” (Song of Solomon 1:2). This simple yet profound statement foreshadows and encapsulates the bride’s desire to experience the full depth of Jesus’ love, not just through the knowledge of His words but through the intimate touch of His affection.

This yearning resonates within us, the believers, who also seek a relationship with Jesus that goes beyond mere intellectual understanding. We yearn for a love that is tangible, experiential, and deeply personal. We want to know Jesus not just as a historical figure or a theological concept but as our living, breathing Savior, our intimate companion.

The kisses of Jesus’ mouth represent the outpouring of His love, a love so profound, so tender, and so passionate that it surpasses the intoxicating effects of wine. It’s a love that intoxicates our souls, filling us with a joy and contentment that transcends earthly pleasures.

Just as the bride craved the intimacy of Solomon’s kisses in the Song of Songs, we too long for a deeper connection with Him. We desire to move beyond the surface level of religious practices and rituals and into the depths of His heart, where true communion and transformation reside.

This cry for intimacy is not a sign of discontent or dissatisfaction with the Word of God. On the contrary, it stems from a profound appreciation for His Word, an understanding that His words are not mere empty expressions but rather a reflection of His very essence.

We hunger for more than just the knowledge of His words; we crave the intimacy of the lips that spoke those words. We yearn to experience the love that birthed those words, a love that is not confined to pages or sermons but overflows into our lives in tangible ways.

As we echo the bride’s passionate cry for intimacy, we open ourselves to a deeper, more transformative relationship with Jesus. We invite Him to draw us closer, to reveal His heart to us, and to shower us with the kisses of His love.

May this longing for intimacy be the driving force in our spiritual journey, leading us ever closer to the heart of our beloved Savior, Jesus Christ.

Have you put your Finger on it?
Thank you for opening a door that I’ve not/never ignored. I’m going to need to read this an again, and give it some study. I don’t want to give a hurried response. I’ve lived with this intimacy for quite some time, and I may have mentioned before I’ve missed something very valuable in this Relational back and forth; which should some how be Unified. I always want to adhere to Obedience, or Grace. I’m working on this now. What could I have missed? Hmmm? I really am All In. Thanks Russ
