Healing Reality 21:
In Isaiah, it is clear that Jesus carried not only our sin but also our sickness. The same stroke that fell on Jesus on the Cross to save us from sin also protects us from illness and disease:
Isaiah 53:4-5 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows:yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
The removal of our diseases is included in Christ’s redemptive work, along with the removal of our sins. The word “bore” implies substitution (suffering for), not sympathy (suffering with). If Christ has borne our sicknesses, why should we bear them?
