Misconceptions About the Prophetic – Anointed Word or Clairvoyant Drivel?

A prophet is not a psychic or a clairvoyant. Many people demand and insist on a “word of knowledge” component in a prophetic word as though that is the litmus test of whether the word is true. This thinking is IMMERSED in unbelief and immaturity. Where does this thinking come from? From a misreading of 1 Cor. 14:24-25

[1Co 14:24-25 KJV] 24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or [one] unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: 25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on [his] face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

Notice in the above scripture that when secrets are revealed in prophecy, this is for UNBELIEVERS. Are you an unbeliever? Are you unlearned? Most people who reject a word because it doesn’t contain information unknown to the prophet consider themselves ELITE in the prophetic when, in reality, they are wallowing in unbelief. It doesn’t take ANY faith to believe in a prophetic word that gives you your phone number, social security number, and who your mother’s cousin is twice removed before you think the word given is inspired. Unfortunately, many prophetic ministers think this way as well, and in striving to “divine” details and specificity, they expose themselves to divination and clairvoyant spirits. Heb. 11:6 says without faith, it is impossible to please God. Prophecies given with word of knowledge are according to Paul in the above verse FOR UNBELIEVERS. Are you an unbeliever? Then let’s get you to the altar, have you sign a decision card, and get you baptized before you receive a word because that would be the first priority.
Are you a believer? 2 Chron. 20:20 says, “Believe the prophets, so shall you prosper…” Is it any wonder many folks are not prospering? Oh, yes, they believe prophecy – when it comes nigh to being a psychic reading or moving in divination, but they don’t believe the prophets. Most prophets are only as respected as the next prophecy they give, which requires no faith on the hearer’s part. Can you imagine people coming to Samuel or Moses as prophets and standing there tongue-in-cheek, as though to say, “Go ahead and impress me; I dare you!”

Who is the prophet in your life? Prophets are installed in your life as necessary as a pastor or any other leader. You need pastors (yes, you do …), and you know what? You need to know who your prophet is. You don’t have one if you don’t know or can’t answer that question. Eph. 4:11,12 calls for them but many people only accept pastors and maybe evangelists. What is the answer? Return to the simplicity of the word of God. Refrain from straining and filtering your perception of what scripture says through your traditions or cultural conditioning. God has a breakthrough for you. The word “prosper” in 2 Chron. 20:20 means to “come to a breakthrough.” Are you ready?

You won’t always hear what you expect when you get prophesied to. The prophetic is more about what God would move YOU to do than what HE is about to do. Look for the assignment in your prophetic word. The kingdom doesn’t come with observation. Things are the way they are because of what you are doing – if you want something different, you must do something different. If you want what you have never had before, you must do what you have never done before. Get out of your head and into a heart response to what God is saying. Folding of hands and “waiting” on God is a recipe for stagnation and sets you up to be contaminated by a root of bitterness.
