Always remember that David in his responses was a man after God’s own heart. If you try to vindicate yourself you have lowered yourself to the level of your enemies. You can’t solve the problem on the level of the problem. I you try to fight your own battles God will fold His hands and wait for you to exhaust yourself in vain effort. When you are in a contest such as this LOVE is the only response that leads to success and resolution.
1 Cor. 13:8 says that love never fails. If love never fails why would we resort to any other tactic and step into failure. Now that doesn’t mean you love these people on their terms. You have to do what you see the Father do and this is exactly what incites these enemies to rise up against you. They want you to go away. They want you to stop doing what God has led you to do. This is not an option. However on the backside of these circumstances when your enemies are spreading lies, repeating rumors, courting defections in your ranks you must not return evil for evil. Keep walking in love. Keep your eyes on the harvest. Trust in God that the truth will always outlive the lie. Love never fails but everything else runs out of energy.
In due time God so worked in this man’s life that he moved to Missouri and worked as an employee in my business at a very critical time that I needed someone to help. He was a key figure in a time of shift from the business world to launching into full time ministry. In all of this the man never changed his heart or his tactics. He was and continues to be a contrarian individual who cannot maintain fidelity with those who are brought into his life. Leave these individuals to God’s hand and keep seeking the kingdom. Don’t be surprised if the enemy who rails against you today will be forced by God’s sovereignty to be an unwitting tool to bring about blessing in your life.
16 And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, [Is] this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept. 17 And he said to David, Thou [art] more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil. 18 And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not. 19 For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day. 20 And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand. 21 Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father’s house. 22 And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.
Saul has a moment of clarity when he realizes how close he was to dying. He is an anointed king yet he has disobeyed and sinned away his opportunity before God to fulfill his destiny. He admits to David that he knows that David will be king. As Jonathan the only thing he asks is that when David ascends to the throne that he will not cut off his seed or exterminate his family. There will be moments like this for you. Will you demonstrate a Saul response or a David response? Will you be a man or woman after God’s own heart or will you touch the anointing and impede your destiny.
