Morning Light – February 8th, 2017 – Isaiah 23: The Burden of Tyre

Morning Light – Isaiah 23 Today: [Isaiah 23] The Burden of Tyre. In this chapter Isaiah prophesies the burden of a city that was comparable in ancient times to New York city in our day. Tyre was a great ally of Israel from the time of David. They provided shipping and materiel necessary for the building of the temple itself. Their commerce and trade literally built great nations such as Ethiopia and Egypt. Yet the people of Tyre were steeped in idolatry and not only provided Israel with trade goods but also contributed to her history leaders such as Jezebel … (click link or title to continue)

Morning Light February 7th, 2017 – Isaiah 22: The Coming Captivity of Jerusalem

Morning Light – Isaiah 22 Today: [Isaiah 22] The Coming Captivity of Jerusalem. In this chapter the city of Jerusalem is celebrating but Isaiah is mourning. The southern kingdom is rejoicing at a time when they think all their troubles are over. Wicked king Ahaz is dead, a new king rules on the throne. Things are looking up – yet Isaiah cries out publically and bitterly warning the people and the king of a bitter time to come. Hezekiah hears Isaiah and shrugs it off, concluding that Isaiah’s words have no bearing on anything important to him. To which the … (click link or title to continue)

Morning Light – February 6th, 2017 – Isaiah 21: Defining the Burden of the Lord

Morning Light – Isaiah 21 Today: [Isaiah 21] Defining the Burden of the Lord. In the book of Isaiah there are 9 times that Isaiah speaks explicitly of specific prophetic burdens. For Isaiah these are ominous messages to various nations, some of whom do not even exist yet as world powers. To many of Isaiah’s contemporaries, his prophesies seem as though they have no relevance to current events. Isaiah claims to look down through many succeeding kings of Judea and beyond, describing events that are far off. Many prophets and prophetic types today take on the semblance of Isaiah’s burdens … (click link or title to continue)

Morning Light – February 3rd, 2017 – Isaiah 20: The Nudist Prophet!

Morning Light – Isaiah 20 Today: [Isaiah 20] The Nudist Prophet! In Isaiah chapter 20 we see Isaiah stripping publicly naked and going without clothes from the waist down for three years. He not only does this but he does so as a prophetic act – seen of all the people not to make himself an exhibitionist but to reprove the false respectability of the people for their futile trust in anything other than the living God. Honestly what would you do if your pastor or a minister you respected committed such a lewd act? Would you even remotely be … (click link or title to continue)

Morning Light – February 2nd, 2017 – Isaiah 19: Egypt is the Work of God’s Hands!

Morning Light – Isaiah 19 Today: [Isaiah 19] Egypt is the Work of God’s Hands! In this chapter Isaiah brings what he calls “the Burden of Egypt.” Egypt was a nation that the people of God were forced to deal with throughout their entire history. For us “spiritual Egypt” is the world of unredeemed humanity around us. Isaiah prophesies against those that have enslaved and brutalized His people and declares in this chapter that He will in effect save them from themselves and restore them to their original Edenic purpose. Toward that end a Savior will be sent Isaiah declares, … (click link or title to continue)

Morning Light – February 1st, 2017 – Isaiah 18: Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Morning Light – Isaiah 18 Today: [Isaiah 18] Can’t We All Just Get Along? In chapter 18 of Isaiah the prophet speaks against the efforts of nations in the region to make treaties and agreements with them outside of His counsel. In modern times we have seen organizations rise such as the League of Nations and the United Nations and we wonder at their inability to get anything done. Billions of dollars are spent only to emphasize and demonstrate the impotence of such organizations to stem the world-wide bloodshed that seems to go unchecked. Isaiah warns that nations that confederate … (click link or title to continue)

Morning Light – January 31st, 2017 – Isaiah 17: Who Are the 144,000?

Morning Light – Isaiah 17 Today: [Isaiah 17] Who Are the 144,000? In chapter 17 of Isaiah we find the prophet speaking against the northern kingdom. The 10 tribes to the north have called on their ancient enemies in Damascus to come against the city of Jerusalem. There is a great fear of Assyrian invasion and both the northern and southern kingdoms have forsaken trust in God and turned to foreign powers for help. As a result Isaiah predicts the 10 tribes to the north will be completely decimated and lost to history. This brings an interesting question then from … (click link or title to continue)

Morning Light – January 30th, 2017 – Isaiah 16: Bringing the Lamb to the Lord

Morning Light – Isaiah 16 Today: [Isaiah 16] Bringing the Lamb to the Lord. In this chapter Isaiah continues his prophecy over the nation of Moab. The nation of Moab has been under tribute to Israel and Judah since the time of David but during Hezekiah’s day they have refused to bring tribute. Isaiah prophesies the destruction of the nation of Moab because the lambs and rams they brought to Judah were accepted as sacrificial offerings for them in the temple of God. Now that these offerings have ceased there is no covering for the sins of Moab. The lambs … (click link or title to continue)
